When choosing wedding rings, we should first of all consider what alloy they should be made of. We should also choose the color of the gold, as well as the sizes. Additionally, in order for our wedding rings to have an individual character, we can decide on an engraving. It can be the wedding date, a life motto, the spouse’s name, or recently very popular engraved fingerprints of the lovers. Before we go to the jewelry store, we need to know the size we will need. How to measure it and on which hand do we wear the ring? Fortunately, when it comes to wedding rings, the matter is much simpler than in the case of an engagement ring.

In Poland, the wedding ring It should be worn on the right hand. However, when visiting, particularly Western countries, we encounter a difference, because in most of these countries the wedding ring is worn on the left hand. We can find explanations in history. In the past, Poles also wore wedding rings on the left hand. During the times of numerous uprisings, especially after the very bloody uprisings: the January and November uprisings, widows began to move their rings to the right hand. The soldiers supporting them also made this gesture as a sign of unity with fallen comrades in arms. This tradition evolved to such an extent and came full circle, that nowadays rings worn on the left hand are worn by widows and widowers.

It should also be noted that during the wedding ceremony, the priest asks the spouses to give their right hand, after which the ritual of exchanging rings takes place. The husband places one of them on the right hand finger of his wife, and vice versa. Why is it specifically the right hand on which we wear the ring? There are many theories. First of all, the right hand is the “more important” hand. This is also related to the adjective “right” in Polish, which means the same as “noble.” The right hand is the hand we offer when greeting, the hand with which we make the sign of the cross, vote, or sign documents. Therefore, the custom in Poland requires wearing the ring on the right hand.

Some women also prefer to move the engagement ring, previously worn on the right hand, to the left hand, because they believe that the right hand should be adorned only and exclusively with the wedding ring, which is the most important piece of jewelry in the life of every spouse. Sometimes it happens that one person wears two wedding rings on their finger.It has a symbolic meaning, which is not hard to find in the case of reflections on wedding rings. Two rings, most often placed on one finger side by side, are worn by people who have lost their spouse.
